Nail Gawd D’Marie
Q: How did you get introduced to the world of nail art?
DM: Well nail art was introduced 4 years ago when I was in cosmetology school .. I am naturally artistic when it comes to drawing, writing, and even photography! Just so happens I was really good at nail art as well !
Q: I’m sure your work and creativity has evolved since the time your first started until now. What was your experience like starting off?
DM: Well starting it off was the hardest part. I didn't know much about anything , so I winged it must of the time. I just followed my mind and heart on what I thought was right.. And it ended up working out in my favor.
Q: How would describe your style of nail art?
DM: I would like to describe my nail art as funky yet classy and urban yet simple. I try to never duplicate my designs so everything is based off my own personal likes.
Q: What are some of your favorite “go to” nail polish brands?
DM: I always use osodollish polish && I can't forget essie as well .. Most of the time I'm using Vetro gel polish as well !
Q: If you could pick any Fashion Designer to do a collaboration with, who would it be and why?
DM: I would go for balmain because, I can duplicate the style to the "T" and I love them. Defiantly know I can murder a Runway set!
Q: What was experience like being on Boss Nails?
DM: My experience on Boss Nails was defiantly an interesting one .. Television alone is an experience within itself! But, it was absolutely an eye opener to society and what you can really bring to the table ! Especially if your the type to bring it ! I wouldn't prefer to do any more reality based shows but I wouldn't say no if it was offered again.
Q: What would you say are important keys to being a great nail technician?
DM: The most important keys to being a nail artist is your patience. Not only for yourself but, for your clients. Patience kindness && perfectionism ! I'm a perfectionist and wouldn't want it any other way. Probably why I'm always in competition with myself and my own work. But defiantly patience
Q: Congratulations on being a shop owner i know that was such a huge accomplishment!
what made you want to make the leap from being a nail tech to owning your own shop? What were the emotions you went through in making that decision?
DM: The emotions I went through when making the decision to open shop..... Stressful. I guess you could say it was a "time turning" experience for me.
I never experienced such stress levels. I can say it helped me grow not only as a woman but also as a person. It taught me a lot when it comes to people.
I feel like I have a degree in psychology. You learn facets, different personalities and aura. It was a roller coaster dealing with a lot of stress levels that came with opening the shop.
Q: What would you say are the benefits in owning your own shop?
DM: The benefits of owning your own shop, I honestly have to say is the ability of being able to manage your own clientele and environment.
To deliver best quality. I'm most comfortable in my own space. I am also in control making sure things are done right.
I like to create an environment for artist to come together to create instead of compete.
